The Irish Cruiser Racing Association would like to thank the Royal Cork Yacht Club for hosting the National ICRA Championships in conjunction with Cork Week 2026 from the 6th to 10th July.

The regatta attracted a large and diverse fleet across eight classes, offering strong competition in all of the IRC, ECHO, Coastal, and Non-Spinnaker categories. Entrants hailed from all four Irish provinces as well as from overseas, with qualifying boats chasing national honours in a week of highly competitive racing in beautiful sailing conditions with a variety of wind strengths during the week and sunshine throughout every race.
The Race Officers and their teams worked hard to provide a full schedule of races, despite the challenges of light breezes on occasion and a summer fog bank that held the fleet ashore one morning. The Royal Cork Yacht Club was fantastically well prepared for the event, offering great facilities, excellent race management, and no shortage of evening entertainment for those with energy to spare after full days on the water.
Racing was closely fought throughout the many ICRA classes, where notable winners included; El Syd, Out of the Blue, The Big Picture, Chimaera, Joker II, Swuzzlebubble, Symmetry, Hellaby Puffin, Tuco, Big Mac, White Pearl, Shillelagh, and Boekanier. Check out www.corkweek.ie to see all the results.
Frank Whelan and his crew from Greystones Sailing Club on El Syd won ICRA Coastal 1 in emphatic style to be awarded the ICRA Overall Trophy under IRC.
The best performing boat under the ECHO handicap system was “Out of the Blue”, sailed by Fergal Lyons and his crew from Galway Bay Sailing Club, who delivered an excellent series of results in in Coastal 2 ECHO.
