Details of the Entertainment programme for Cork Week 2010 have been announced at a launch at the Kiln, Heineken Brewery, in Cork [9 June, 2010]. Headline acts for the event, which takes place at the Royal Cork Yacht Club, Crosshaven, include The Coronas, Fred, The Chapters, Jerry Fish & the Mudbug Club and The Frank & Walters. The Cork Week Entertainment Programme begins on July 12th and promises to be the best ever, with music from the early evening from the likes of Devil’s Bit and Drumbru, to the late-night DJs.
Monday sees Setmaker make their Cork Week debut in the main Regatta Bar. One of the finest bands to come out of Clonakilty they have established a steady following in Cork, and indeed further afield, in the past couple of years. Headliners for Tuesday are The Marvels, who bring a whole new dimension to the meaning of ‘Showband’. They continue to raise the bar to new levels showing a new generation what entertainment really is.
Wednesday sees a performance by FRED followed by the incomparable Frank and Walters. FRED are the people’s band, making music for the people, while the Frank and Walters make a strong case for being the greatest band ever to come out of the Peoples Republic of Cork. This super bill is certain to sell-out fast so early booking is recommended.
Another double-bill on Thursday 15th, sees The Chapters and The Coronas headlining. The Chapters have been receiving critical acclaim since “Perfect Stranger” hit the shelves rocketing into the Hotpress Top 30 albums of 200 and their album also went straight into the Top Irish Albums of all time. The Coronas achieved platinum sales in Ireland, and spawned massive singles such as “Grace, Don’t Wait!”, “Heroes or Ghosts” and especially “San Diego Song” which became an anthem in clubs and radio stations all across the country.
Devil’s Bit and J90 finish out the week at the Regatta Bar on Friday night, bringing down the curtain on what will hopefully be a fantastic week of sailing and fun.
Jerry Fish & the Mudbug Club will headline the Fastnet stage from Monday to Friday night while Noel & Frank, along with the Alan Murphy Trio, get things started each night at the Fastnet Bar. The fun continues into the early hours with DJ Ted.
Cork Week Chairman, Peter Deasy, paid tribute to the Cork Week sponsors and thanked them for their support. “Cork Week is a massive undertaking, it is the largest regatta in Europe run by a single club and we could not run the event without the kind assistance of our sponsors such as Heineken and our media partners 96fm and The Irish Examiner. We have put together a terrific night time programme on shore and entries for the regatta are still coming in so we are confident that Cork Week 2010 will be amongst one of the very best”.
Tickets range from €10 to €20 – depending on the night. Season Tickets, covering all five nights are €65. Tickets are available from the Royal Cork Reception/Main Office from Wednesday next – June 16th. Telephone 021 483 1179. All evening events are strictly over 18’s only.
