London, Tuesday 15 January 2008: ACCBank today announced its sponsorship of Cork Week, Ireland’s largest International Sailing Regatta, hosted by the Royal Cork Yacht Club. The event is run every two years and the 2008 ACCBank Cork Week will take place from 12-18 July.
The new agreement was announced earlier today, Tuesday 15 January, at the London Boat Show. Well known faces from the sailing community in Cork were present at the announcement, including Hugh Mockler, Admiral of the Royal Cork Yacht Club and Mike McCarthy, Vice Admiral.
BBC2 TV presenter, Adventurer and Sailor, Ben Fogle, who has visited Cork Week in the past, was also present at the sponsorship announcement.
Commenting on the new sponsorship, ACCBank General Manager for Strategy, Eddie Kingston, said ACCBank was very pleased to be supporting Cork Week 2008. “We have identified sailing as an excellent fit with our brand and of keen interest to our customers. We are delighted to be linking ACCBank with Cork Week 2008, as it is such a prestigious Irish event. It matches our strategic and commercial objectives. We wish to associate our sponsorships with local events that have an international dimension, mirroring our organisation as a local player with global reach through our parent company, Rabobank”.
Speaking on behalf of the Royal Cork Yacht Club, organisers of the ACCBank Cork Week, Admiral Hugh Mockler said, “We are delighted to welcome ACCBank on board as the title sponsor of Cork Week. Cork Week is Ireland’s biggest sailing event and since its inception in 1978 we have welcomed sailors and spectators from all over the world. The 2006 Cork Week event had competitors from 21 countries, and we expect over 500 boats and 5000 sailors to take part this year. Of course, 2008 will be all the more special as it marks 30 years since the inception of Cork Week, back in 1978. We are confident that the 2008 ACCBank Cork Week will be the biggest event in the history of the regatta.”
